The White House announced that reciprocal tariffs on Chinese origin goods will increase from 34% to 84%, effective April 9, 2025 at 12:01 am EST. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) also provided guidance on the increased tariffs for China, Hong Kong and Macau.

The 84% tariff is in addition to the 20% International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) tariff implemented earlier this year, resulting in a combined 104% tariff on Chinese goods. This 104% tariff will be applied in addition to any applicable Section 301 duties, regular duties, and anti-dumping and countervailing duties required for the specific commodity.

The Executive Order also announced that duty rates for postal shipments would be increased to 90% from 30% as previously announced on April 2, 2025.

The increase in tariffs were announced after China announced additional tariffs would be imposed on U.S. goods effective April 10, 2025. In response to this increase, China also increased tariffs on the U.S. to 84%.
