On April 29, 2025, the White House issued Presidential proclamation “Amendments to Adjusting Imports of Automobiles and Automobile Parts into the United States”. The original Presidential Proclamation 10908 of March 26, 2025, imposed Section 232 tariffs on automobiles effective April 3, 2025, and a 25 percent tariff on certain automobile parts (engine and engine parts, transmissions and powertrain parts, and electrical components). These tariffs were effective May 3, 2025, at 12:01 a.m. EDT for all countries of origin.
On May 1, 2025, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) posted updated guidance in CSMS # 64916652 on the entry filing process for these automobile parts. The tariffs apply to imported parts of passenger vehicles under subdivision (g) or if they meet the criteria in subdivision (h). See the Automobile Parts HTS List here. 9903.94.05: Applies to parts of passenger vehicles (sedans, sports utility vehicles, crossover utility vehicles, mini vans, and cargo vans) and light trucks classifiable in provisions of the HTSUS enumerated in subdivision (g). (25 additional percent duty).
9903.94.06: Applies to all entries of articles classifiable under HTSUS provisions listed in subdivision (g)
