Diesel prices surge, threatening 29-month streak of declines

The national U.S. average diesel price per gallon of $3.78 in July was up significantly from $3.60 in June. Despite this large 18 cent increase month over month, which follows a previous 10 cent decrease month over month, the average price is still slightly lower than the $3.81 in July 2024. This marks the 29th consecutive month of year-over-year decreases in fuel. Unless fuel prices subside substantially in August, this consecutive streak will come to an end next month.
